A Word Wheel–a circle with consonants

On a piece of thick paper or tag board, write a phonogram pattern like -an, -it, or -ock. Leave space to the left of the pattern. Then cut out a round piece of the same material, and write consonant letters such as f, s, h, and p (for -it) facing outward around the edges of the circle. Attach the circle to the slip of paper with the phonogram pattern using a brad. Children can rotate the circle until a beginning consonant lines up with the phonogram pattern and then pronounce the resulting word.
